History

Initially "Pro Fair Trade Finland" was founded in Helsinki in 2000. A group of active citizens interested in Fair World Trade wanted to act as a civic organisation in raising awareness on Fairtrade, and decided to start an official association to promote it. We have since expanded our activities from the capital region to other parts of Finland, and we have local groups in more than ten towns at present. Our expanding activities also led us to change our name into "Pro Ethical Trade Finland" since January 2011.

During our history, we have been involved in many undertakings. Due to our campaigns, thousands of people have been able to familiarise themselves with Fairtrade at festivals, in schools, at church functions and in supermarkets.

Recently we have expanded our activities from Fairtrade to generally promoting socially responsible standards in world trade. Currently, these new activities include campaigning for more socially responsible consumer electronics, garments and sportswear.
