History
Pro Fair Trade Finland was founded in Helsinki in 2000. A group of active citizens interested in Fair World Trade wanted to act as a civic organisation in raising awareness on Fairtrade and decided to start an official association to promote it. Pro Fair Trade Finland has since expanded its activities from the capital region to other parts of Finland, and the association has local groups in approximately 15 towns at present.
During its history, Pro Fair Trade Finland has been involved in great a many undertakings. Due to the campaigns of Pro Fair Trade Finland, thousands of people have been able to familiarise themselves with Fairtrade at festivals, in schools, at church functions and in supermarkets. Pro Fair Trade Finland takes credit for the fact that eight out of ten Finns are familiar with the Fairtrade brand, and that the sales of these products has continued to grow at an annual rate of nearly 100% during the past few years.
